For some time now women all over the country have came together in efforts to inform the public what their reasons for not reporting their sexual assault crimes were and that these crimes should no longer be tolerated. All of these stories are heartbreaking, but there are some in particular that have moved those who read them. Some include “I was only 7” or “No one would believe me”. It is not easy what these survivors go through and it certainly does take a great amount of courage for them to share their stories. Many have commented and asked “well why didn’t they just say something right after it happened?” but this is more easy said than done. This is why this hashtag was created to let those who ask these types of questions to know their reasons, despite the fact that they DO NOT deserve to know why.

The tweets that were written by sexual assault are all compelling because they are sharing a traumatic event that they experienced and they were unable to receive the help that they needed. People who are put in such situation are mostly by people who are closest to them. As a result of this, if sexual assault does occur, they are afraid of speaking out because they think that no one will believe them. This is a major reason people do not report which is why people, especially young children, should be taught from a very young age to always speak up to avoid these situations and not allow those committing these crimes to continue to do so in silence. It is unfair for an individual to have to live with this trauma and then in addition to this witness how this person does not face the consequences of their actions. Another digital moment that stuck out to me was a video clip of The Real Daytime talk show host Jeannie Mai sharing her experience with sexual assault. Similar to the other tweets, Jeannie mentions how she was sexually assaulted by someone close to her and that was the reason why she did not speak up on the matter. She also mentions that this is the reason why she is able to have the confidence that she does to speak on it today, to encourage other girls and women to know that they have a voice and they should use it without fear.

This message is very important because it allows other survivors to not feel alone in what they are going through as well as give them the hope that they need to know that everything will be alright. An audience member is shown towards the end of the clip in tears and that shows the impact that this message has on her and other women across the nation. It lets other women know that they are not alone in what they are going through and no matter when they decide to share their story, they should always feel strong.
