“The highest and most beautiful things in life are not to be heard about, nor read about, nor seen but, if one will, are to be lived.” - Soren Kierkegaard |
I’m Pamela Rodriguez, an 18 year old student enrolled in John Jay College of Criminal Justice. As a Forensic Psychology major, my passionate interest in helping those suffering mental health problems without the ability to afford professional help is what has pushed me in this direction. Another important thing that I advocate for are women’s rights and gender equality. As a nation there are still many issues to be addressed and one of the most important to me are women’s rights. Females make up more than half of the nation’s population and yet they still struggle to make ends meet alongside men. Growing up Hispanic was conflicting in that I strongly believe that women are not property of the home and have every right to go out into the world and strive for everything that they desire to attain.
I was born and raised in Queens, New York. It is the only place I’ve known and loved. Since I was born, I’ve lived in 4 homes and my favorite was my third home. It was where I spent 11 years of my life. Out of all of my homes is is my favorite because the community I lived in was very involved and so was I. I was close to all of my neighbors and knew most of the people within a 10 block radius. Being surrounded by people I care for and are special to me is very important because I feel is what keep us grounded. My family and closest friends are everything to me and what have helped me turn into the person I am today, a strong, independent young woman reaching for her dreams. |
